Kamada Ekadashi is a Hindu festival that falls on the 11th day (Ekadashi) of the Chaitra month in the Hindu calendar. This festival is observed with great devotion and reverence by the Hindus. It is believed that observing fast and performing puja (worship) on this day helps in purifying the mind and soul, and brings prosperity and happiness.
Story of Kamada Ekadashi:
The story of Kamada Ekadashi is mentioned in the Varaha Purana. According to the legend, there was a demon named Lalit who lived in a kingdom called Ratnapur. He was a cruel and wicked demon who used to torment the people of the kingdom. The people of Ratnapur prayed to Lord Vishnu to save them from the demon’s atrocities.
Lord Vishnu, who is also known as Kamalnayan, appeared in their dreams and asked them to observe a fast on the Ekadashi of the Chaitra month to get rid of their miseries. The people of Ratnapur observed the fast and performed puja to Lord Vishnu with devotion. Pleased with their devotion, Lord Vishnu appeared before them and killed the demon Lalit. Since then, this day is celebrated as Kamada Ekadashi.
