Heart touching …Some reflections on the movie, “Spaceman”
Had many self reflections which were triggered with this movie. The deep longing of a lonely existence of this astronaut is reciprocated by an extra terrestrial being ( hanush) who acts like his spiritual mirror bringing him heartful insights of how he had always kept his own success and ambition above the love for his wife who loved him unconditionally.
Their beautiful friendship starts after the 6 month lonesome astronaut suddenly encounters this ugly spider in his space shuttle and is touched by his compassion and wisdom which comes from the etheral realms. He is so used to his loneliness and his heart is so dry like a barren desert. That’s when hanush’s love erupts as a wild flower bringing him reflections , remorse and insights into his own selfishness in his marriage.
The movie ends with the sacrifice of hanush to protect his skinny human friend as he evaporates to his end in the Chopra purple pantheon which the astronaut had travelled to discover. Even as he dies, he ensures the beginning of a deep love in the astronaut’s heart.
Sometimes we take our loved ones for granted and forget to give them their due share of respect and love they are meant for. Also I found so much resonance in the loneliness of the astronaut and how he is losing his sanity and humanness in the absence of most essential love and warmth of human contact. The pure love of hanush and his beautiful heart of compassion is such an inspiration for the lover in me.
