Amongst the buzzing aggression of worldly disorder, spiritual teachers and well-meaning communities and organizations, philanthropic and kind individuals, it can get very very confusing to choose a path that one can walk with ease and with diligence. The more complex, alluring, profitable and expensive the paths offered to us, the more enchanted we are with taking them up. Their flashy look inspires the ego to make another proclamation of having taken up something so magical, powerful and manifesting.
After a while of walking.. unfortunately, the void of the practice may reveal itself and in return our shallow lust for quick bites of enlightenment. As if everything is so possible for everyone who takes it up, the Gurus of our urban worlds continue to offer the goldmines to everyone. Like products with a warranty, the same kriya, mantra and techniques are offered to all followers. The intention to increase followers and numbers has tricked us to follow them like a mindless mad lusty man who is hungry to be super enlightened and that too super quick.
This simple chant of ” Do no harm” can be a complete personal spiritual practice for us. Easy as it may sound, it is really challenging in this Kaliyuga where we live amidst men who can proclaim themselves as big only after macerating you. Cruel, egoistic and power-hungry madmen walk this beautiful planet of ours now and to practice ahimsa moment to moment is like a death knell for the ego. The ego which wants to acquire, conquer, aggress and mutilate to achieve higher and higher name, fame, money and power is the inhabiting climate in today’s times. But with faith and surrender, the impactful presence of one genuinely unconditional man practising this Buddhist and humanely tradition of ” cause no harm” can make a difference at least to him. Maybe his little deeds will be left invisible, no one will accolade him with honours and no one will sing laurels of his praise, but somewhere he would have left an indelible act of kindness on this planet which we most need. What we need most..but fail to give to others.
Crazy and lacklustre it may sound but walking the path of ahimsa is only for the fearless warrior of the truth. It can move the mountain glacier of ego within to melt into effulgent springs of joy, peace and satiety within. These are the goals of all spiritual practices indeed. And even if in little ways, it can touch fellow humans deeply where they need to be touched most…at their hearts.
